May 5, 2015: Two RLH residents initiated into Phi Beta Kappa

Miranda Walker initiated into PBK April 2015

On Sunday April 26 two residents of the Romance Language House, Miranda Walker (’12-14) and Derek Benjamin (’14-’16) were initiated into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776, and Truman has the Delta chapter of Missouri. https://www.pbk.org/ . Derek is studying in Spain this semester, and couldn’t be photographed, but see below for a blog interview with Derek posted earlier this semester by Keilah Sullivan. Miranda, who graduates this week, will pursue her MAE in Romance Languages at Truman this fall. Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest academic honor society in the country! Seventeen US Presidents, 38 US Supreme Court Justices and more than 130 Nobel Laureates have been members of Phi Beta Kappa. We’re not sure how many Romance Language experts have been members, though. These may be the first two. At least, from the RLH!
